Hair & Hands
I first saw this concept in a photo of a model with her hair fully extended … and her arms stretched out, and thought … “hmmm, could do that, without the surroundings, and the focus to be the hair and hands!”
Now, which models would be ideal for this, I need a model, or models, to “canvas” this for me, models with relatively love hair, light weight, and nice hands & fingers.
As it so happens, I’ve been doing a bit of work recently with both Charla and Mariana, and both fit the requirement …
And viola, here were are today to run this off and see if it works ….
Makeup will be simple, if any. Eyelashes, and nail polish, yes; with the major styling work to be done on the hair to get the shape I want for this shoot.
The tricky part will be the lighting and the pose, to ensure that it lights the whole hair, and arms, but nothing else; and to ensure that the hair is fully extended and stretched out.
Sure enough, sorting out the hair took about an hour, then about 30 minutes to test different light settings, then another 30 minutes to work out the pose and posture; following that, we spent about 1 ½ hours shooting different hand poses to get the desired image.
As the day’s work didn’t take so long, we were able to do a snap review once the photoshoot was over; and yes I could see how I could have improved things, and can see how we did amazingly well too, given it was my first attempt at this concept, pose, and lighting.
All in all, was a very pleasant day for all.
