Under The Bridge

The idea came to me when I first came out to Riyadh, back in 2011, and toured the outskirts of the city. The various bridges offered a myriad of architectural opportunities in various lighting and composition frames; but like many things, the idea got forgotten as my photography journey took a different turn.

Then late last year the idea came back to mind as I was scouting for more locations for my Fashion & Beauty photoshoots.

Whit that, I did another refresher tour to identify the bridges, the time of days that would work, what kind of a composition I wanted, etc.; and while the timing now isn’t right, due to us entering the summer season seeing temperatures hitting the middle, to high, 40˚C nevertheless early morning would be doable.

A friend, Leica user also wanted to come along to try out his first outdoors photoshoot with his View Camera, the Sinar, which he bought on an impulse for a bargain for such a camera that’s in mint condition (it was never used).

And so, it was to be, planned for after Fajr (morning) prayer, being at location at 5am was ideal to capture the moderate temperate and the cooler weather for this time of the year.

For the day’s shoot, two cameras were used by me:

Hasselblad H5D-50c, with the Tilt/Shift and a variety of lens (24mm, 50mm, and 100mm)

Leica M2, and this was to be my first outing with it since I had it serviced back in 2013 / 2014 … this film camera I had with a KodakColor ISO 200 film (film is dated 2015, but has been stored in a fridge all its life)

There was mainly one composition / shoot we wanted to do at this identified bridge, which we managed between the 5am meet-up and 6am; following that we went to the other bridge.

Images from the shoot will follow.

Behind the Scene images will be uploaded here …
