Joudah’s Thumb
I don’t know what it is about this location that draws so much attraction; it is a rock monolith in the middle of the desert, half way between Riyadh and the Eastern Province … it sure looks odd, standing on its own in the middle of nowhere, given its behemoth size!
I got to know of it many moons ago, but only visited it summer 2023! I am not sure why I took so long to visit it … somehow, I felt as if it were in a different country …
On my first visit, which was in the middle of summer, I managed to get some pretty great shots; but seeing it was summer, it was way too hot to be out of the vehicle to compose and structure myself well. Hence, wanted to come back in milder weather. The problem with the milder weather, the place is packed with campers.
I then found that very nearby is a mountainous range that has some pretty weird enclaves, crevasses and plateau; so much so, I wanted to find a way to get to the top, by vehicle of course.
Sure enough, after hours, if not days, or searching via Google Maps, I found a track that may just be the right one … and voila, the plan will be to head up there for the Friday 5th Sept., to try and shoot Joudah from top-side. Ideally I’d want to camp out there overnight, so that I may get some shots at sunset, and then more at sunrise … we will see how it works out.
Once conquered, images will be posted in the image section … maybe some Behind The Scene (BTS) will be posted in the Blog section too.
Stay Tuned …
